K&A Scope

Design fabrication process, engineer and manufacture the sculpture from artists rendering and scale models. Fabrication included steel armature, stainless steel arrow shaft, FRP feathers made from laser-scanned artist model enlarged and molded in one off CNC-milled EPS foam molds, and bow elements consisting of FRP sandwich panels over structural steel armature. Bow string is stainless rod under molded FRP cover.

Description

Bow elements are made of vinylester resin and oriented strand E-Glass fabric reinforcement over PVC core. Composite skins are thermally isolated and bonded to structural steel armature. Arrow shaft is extruded type 304 stainless steel. Feathers are E-Glass reinforcement in unsaturated polyester resin with base gel-coat and automotive urethane top coat. Sculpture was commissioned by Donald Fisher of The Gap for inclusion in Rincon Park, directly across from the new Gap headquarters building in San Francisco.
